The other day my friends and I were discussing the Robocop game and it made me think of what other old-school action movies would make a great translation into a video game while a lot of them have already been made, here are a few that I think would make great modern action games.
The Rock
This is one of my favourite movies of all time and I always felt it could make an exciting espionage-style game. Especially having the fun dynamic between Mason and Goodspeed, including elements like the car chase in San Francisco and making a stealth entry into Alcatraz, the whole movie is one crazy fun action ride and a game would be no different.
Beverly Hills Cop
The theme is in your head already, isn’t it? While a game like this wouldn’t be anything unique, Axel Foley is such a fun and exciting character that the game could be enjoyable. And while Beverly Hills Cop 3 is the weak link of the saga, the bizarre weapons making an appearance is a fun potential.
Under Siege
An intense stealth-style action game. Being confined to the ship will allow for an interesting dynamic and adding gun and stealth combat will give it some depth. We’ve played games like this before and we’ve enjoyed them, thinking of this with elements from Metal Gear Solid 2.
True Lies
This can work amazingly, as a spy game, action game, and having the 2 spouses collaborate on missions as well. This could also work as an unofficial sequel to the movie, there are a ton of possibilities with this.
Road House
This one could be just a random beat-them-up style game and could have elements of Grand Theft Auto when it comes to walking around the bars and dealing with degenerates. Wouldn’t have too much depth to it, but could make for an interesting concept.
Tremors
I don’t know how much of a story, or how much depth could be for this. However, doing a game where you’re hunting the creatures while being hunted and finding creative ways to survive and attack could be fun. I see this as more of a horde mode type of game.
From Dusk Till Dawn
Who doesn’t love a good vampire/zombie shooter? They could start it off from the beginning where they are starting with a bank robbery. I see elements of Dead Rising in this with making random custom weapons to take down the vampires.
As someone born in the 80s, I grew up on these movies and love the source material. The technology wasn’t there back then, but it’s here now and this could be a new genre of gaming to take over. What are some movies that you think would make a great game?
