Choose your own adventure

I was talking to my brother in law about Heavy Rain and how it still to me has the greatest twist in gaming history and it was one my favorite games of the 2010s, but I don’t consider it a game as it’s more of an interactive movie.  So it got me thinking of movies, which could be a “Choose your own adventure” type of game, this list will be a little unconventional as it would be the regular action focused games and like Heavy Rain, they would also have multiple endings.

Mean Girls

Hear me out here, playing as the main character and building a new life at a new school.  Making decisions that could make or break her school life.  It could be decisions from backstabbing friends to asking someone out.  Each decision can make the story go in a completely new direction.

Silence of the Lambs

This one could be absolutely terrifying, not necessarily based on the movie but more so inspired by it, whether speaking with Hannibal Lecter for advice to explore the kidnapping or viewing other corpses.  This would be a little similar to how LA Noire would be when they would explore crime scenes.  Even adding a feature where missing a clue could completely change the outcome of the story.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Imagine going back to erase memories and creating them as you go along.  Each decision changes the aspect of the relationship and it would create an emotional roller coaster.  The ending could give a sense of relief or dread depending how you create the relationship.

Knives Out

A game based on the source material can almost write itself.  Glass Onion was a movie that was almost impossible to spoil as you needed to watch the whole movie to understand how it all comes together.  With a game based on the source material, there even could possibly be no “bad” ending.

The Departed

Honestly, I didn’t think this movie was that great but it could potentially make for an interesting inspiration for a game.  Playing both sides of the field, even the meetings with the psychiatrist and finding ways to take down the main guy.  With multiple endings of different characters’ outcomes being affected it could be pretty intense.

Se7en

This one I envision as a spiritual sequel to the movie, where there is a copycat John Doe.  Just as intense, just as captivating and just as graphic as the movie is.  This is certainly one that wouldn’t be for the faint of heart, especially when you’re examining the corpses.

These are just a few unconventional examples I think would make interesting “Choose your own adventure” type of games, there certainly are a lot more and the list could be limitless. Which movies do you think would make an interesting “Choose your own adventure” game?
