The Nitro Bro

I grew up in an era where console gaming was supreme, throughout most of my life we would always debate and argue which systems are the best.  Whether it was Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft or Sega it was always a spirited debate and at the time, there were reasons to select one console over the other. Now with the limited exclusivity and how more developers are being less restrictive on bringing their games to PC, the console wars appear to be at an end.

My views on this started when Sony brought God of War (2017) to PC allowing it to reach a much bigger audience than before.  However, that wasn’t the biggest revelation I had with this, was how late 2024 it was announced Forza, an XBox exclusive is coming to Playstation 5 which for decades seemed improbable, but here we are now!

With the limited exclusivity and with the increase of handhelds such as the Steam Deck consoles are going to have a hard time finding ways to keep their loyal and devout customers.  Developers are now going to look at distributing their titles as much as possible, they’re not going to care which platform it goes to and they are smart (Let’s be real, greedy!) enough to not limit it to console exclusivity.  

Let’s not also forget how platforms such as Steam, Epic Games, and even Amazon games are going to compete with one another.  Finding the best way to undercut each other, whether it be discounts or including titles on their respective subscription service such as XBox Game Pass.

With Nintendo being the truly only one who is hell bent on exclusivity, my prediction is that once they decide to officially go to PC, it’ll be the final generation of consoles.  Since the Switch 2 just came out, it’s going to be a while before that happens, but the console wars as a whole are seeing a near end.

What do all of you think, are the console wars coming to an end, are the other companies going to go the SEGA route and abandon consoles and just make games, or are the console wars going to continue through our whole lifetimes?
