Video games are good for you

“Video Games Will Make You Stupid! Video Games Are for Children! Video Games Are for Losers!” Does anyone else remember hearing this nonsense during their childhood?

We all believed it. Some of us stopped playing for years because we thought it was true, only to find out later through actual research that it was all nonsense.

While in the gaming world, I’m considered a “Filthy Casual,” video games have always been a big part of my life, and I was ridiculed in the past for it. However, this archaic mindset seems to be shifting significantly.

Video games have proven psychological benefits, including:

  • Social Interaction: Playing games online and voice chatting with friends allows you to enjoy time with people whose presence you enjoy.
  • Trauma Recovery: Games can help distract you and provide temporary peace of mind by focusing on something enjoyable.
  • Reconnecting with Someone: Friendly competition can add new dynamics to relationships you’re trying to grow.
  • Improving Reaction Time: Games help you coordinate thoughts into actions when overcoming obstacles or finishing challenging levels.
  • Problem-Solving: No matter what game you play, you are trying to achieve goals and progress. Often, you need to find alternate methods to succeed.

One major benefit is dealing with failure and overcoming obstacles. Games can be hard and frustrating, causing you to rage. However, you subconsciously embrace your failures, learn from them, and find a way to overcome challenges to achieve your goals.

A counter-argument can be made that all these positives could lead to addiction. This could be true, but as Thanos prefers, finding a balance is key.

What do you think are some benefits of video games?
