One Of Them Days Review

So this one turned into a random movie night and this is one I had literally no idea about besides Keke Palmer was the main actress.  While it’s not the usual blockbuster I usually go the the theatre for or even an A-Lister lead film it was a pleasant surprise. Funny, entertaining and you were drawn to it the whole time.

As mentioned Keke is the main character and she was a great character, someone in ghetto LA trying to make the best of her situation when her circumstances are destining her for failure.  She was portrayed as an intelligent, hardworking and determined person who is trying to make it in this world.  The supporting cast was great too, from her best friend played by SZA to other unique characters who each brought their own charm to the story.  The story and the characters brought a sense of relatability to them that brings more enjoyment to the movie.  Plus, the story was so cleverly written, everything that happened makes a significant impact to the very end.

There isn’t much negativity to say about this besides the fact that some of the characters are just so painfully unlikable, which again isn’t a negative thing since that’s what they were supposed to be.  The language is definitely going to offend people, despite being expected and being accurate for the tone of the film and environment it takes place. And just on a personal note, I am not a huge fan of these “day in the life” type of films.

Overall it was a great, fun and light hearted movie to watch, I don’t think it’ll be a blockbuster or even go down as a classic but it’s worth watching.  However, I would say wait for streaming rather than going to the theatre.

I give this a 7.5/10.

Good:

  • All the characters
  • Funny and fun throughout
  • Great display of resiliency and determination

Bad:

  • Some really unlikable characters
  • A lot of cliches for a movie like this
  • Not a fan of the “day in the life” style
