This was another random movie night and with the limited options, Wolfman was chosen. The strange thing for me was why would they release this during the holidays season rather than Halloween season, I really feel that was the biggest mistake they did with this. While it wasn’t awful it certainly was one that could be skipped.
As of late a lot of movies are using more practical effects rather than CGI and for the most part i love that since it keeps the movie more timeless. There was some CGI used and it was used appropriately and not overtaking, makeup was well done and the story while predictable wasn’t bad. Also they took a different approach on the werewolf transformation which made it more interesting than previous incarnations. I’d like to add, it was filmed beautifully utilizing the amazing scenery.
As mentioned, the story is really predictable and also the characters were really uninspiring and had little chemistry with one another. The pacing was really slowly done and dragged a lot, and there were so many cliche moments with the family. It’s certainly one you can skip the theatre for and just check it out on streaming.
Overall I’d call this movie watchable, it’s not terrible but it’s forgettable and you will forget about it fast.
I give this one a 6/10.
Good:
- Limited use of CGI
- Beautiful cinematography
- Werewolf transformation was done differently
Bad:
- Poor pacing
- Predicable the whole time
- Characters were uninspiring and had weak chemistry
