There are times you absolutely hate an actor for the character they portray, like King Joffrey, Stormfront, Todd Alquist, and now, I am certain we can add Rusty Sabich to this list. Jake did a great job in this role, making you despise him to the point where you want him to be guilty.
Based on a novel, there was a movie adaptation made in the 90s, so some plot points and moments were familiar. However, this time, it was set in contemporary times with smartphones used significantly throughout the trial.
The acting and writing were great, believable, and kept you interested in the story throughout. The twists were not exaggerated and were sensible, allowing the story to remain engaging and keep you guessing about what happened. It made you suspect everyone’s involvement at some point.
The only real negative was how much you disliked all the characters, but you could argue that the acting was just that good (for the most part). The overall result was kind of expected, but not necessarily in the way it happened.
I highly recommend people watch it. It differs from the source material in a positive way, and you will certainly enjoy it throughout.
I give this an 8.5/10 watch it!
Good:
- Acting is fantastic across all characters
- Keeps you guessing the whole time
- Realistic portrayal of the trial
- Contemporized the story very well
Bad:
- Majority of characters are unlikeable especially Rusty
