Have you ever seen a profile where someone proudly labels themselves as an “Alpha Male” and thought, “Wow, this guy is so cool and must be the best”? Yeah… neither do I nor does anyone else!
When did this self-proclaimed “Alpha Male” trend become a thing, and why do people think it’s a good idea? Influences like Andrew Tate popularized this pathetic trend, and it boggles my mind.
People who call themselves “Alpha Males” aren’t truly alphas; they’re guys who want women to be submissive, who wish to revert to times when women had no rights or purpose but to serve men. How are they Alpha Males? In two simple words… they’re not. What they are is the prime example of toxic masculinity.
True characteristics of an Alpha Male are:
- Confident
- Assertive
- Humble
- Leads by example
- Controls emotions
- Leader
- Controls their destiny
- Courageous
- Charismatic
However, I often see these characteristics more prominently in the women in my life. Throughout history, women have had to prove themselves much more, contending with these so-called “Alpha Males” who viewed them as second-class beings for generations.
But this dynamic is not only changing, it has changed! More and more women are being appointed to management roles. Female characters in media are better than ever (for the most part, but I’ll get to that later). Women today are stronger than ever, taking over the fitness industry, the business world, and the sports world.
The reality is that the Alpha Female of today had to battle the Alpha Male of the past. While it remains an uphill battle, they are succeeding and will continue to grow.
What are your thoughts on the self-proclaimed Alpha Male? Do you think it’s a joke, or do you find some validity in what they say?
