Furiosa Review

This is a movie that did not get the respect and success it deserved.  I absolutely loved Mad Max: Road Fury and when I heard they were going to do a movie for Furiosa I had my reservations, especially since Charleze wasn’t going to be reprising her role, despite how great Anya is.  However, all reservations were thrown out the window!

Art direction was similar to what was used in Road Fury and minimal CGI usage allows for a timeless feel.  Chris Hemsworth as a villain is rare but he was despicable and was easy to dislike through the whole movie, with literally no redemptive qualities.  But Anya owned the screen the entire time, she was shown as the brave, strong, and unstoppable force that Furiosa is meant to be.  The dystopian visuals and vibes were in their own way beautiful from the scenery, costumes and vehicle designs.

It didn’t explore too much into the events that lead to Road Fury till much later on, and while it’s the point of it, it does give a bleak feel majority of the time.  Also, while Anya was incredible, Charlize should’ve been back for this movie.  The biggest issue with Furiosa is that to really appreciate it you’d have to have seen Road Fury as a lot of characters and elements were introduced in it and you may feel a little lost.

While I feel that Road Fury was the superior film, this one is a gem in it’s own way, exciting, intriguing and a thrilling ride for the most part.  It didn’t get the appreciation it deserved and I think everyone needs to watch it.

I give this a 9/10!

Good:

  • Beautiful art direction
  • Anya as Furiosa
  • Exciting thrill ride for the majority

Bad:

  • No reason needed to replace Charlize
  • You need to have seen Road Fury to appreciate fully
  • Time jump was almost unnoticeable
